Volunteer Spotlight | Mecklenburg Chapter NSDAR

“As a women's organization, many among our chapter membership have experienced a breast cancer journey. We are proud to play a part in providing volunteer support to CBF’s mission.”

For Laura Giust and the Mecklenburg Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), volunteering for Carolina Breast Friends (CBF) is a good fit for their mission. It’s also a personal fit for Laura and many of the chapter’s members.

NSDAR is a women's service organization whose primary focus areas are Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism. Within the organization there is a Women’s Issues committee and a Service to America committee that each specifically align with helping nonprofits like CBF.

But it’s more than just that. As Laura, who is First Vice Regent of the Mecklenburg Chapter, describes, “As a women's organization, many among our chapter membership have experienced a breast cancer journey. We are proud to play a part in providing volunteer support to CBF’s mission.”

Laura herself is a breast cancer Survivor who has experienced our mission firsthand. She shares, “My initial visit to The Pink House was during my breast cancer treatment in 2021. I was delighted to learn that the Mecklenburg Chapter members had long been volunteer supporters there.” She explains that the support, love, and care she was given inspired her to keep passing that along to others via the NSDAR’s volunteer efforts.

The Mecklenburg Chapter members have planted flowers in the Healing Garden at the The Pink House, filled jars with inspirational messages for Survivors & Thrivers, assembled our new inspiration boxes, and packed comfort bags that help ease the experience of treatment. These activities greatly aid us in encouraging, empowering, and uplifting the breast cancer community.

Says Laura, “Mecklenburg Chapter members look forward to a continuing collaboration with CBF and The Pink House in support of Charlotte area breast cancer fighters, Survivors, and Thrivers.”
