"I am not great at asking for help, so it's been really powerful to know there is this amazing community of women within reach."
Brittany's journey with breast cancer began in December 2021, just after her 30th birthday. Her gynecologist detected the lump during her annual visit, catching it in the early stages. With a triple-positive diagnosis, Brittany underwent chemotherapy, a lumpectomy, and radiation.
During her chemotherapy, Brittany received a Comfort Bag from CBF. While she often drove by The Pink House on her way to her treatment, it wasn't until earlier this year that she began to participate in the activities we offer at The Pink House. "I've attended and volunteered at social events and utilized the massage therapy. I am also a member of [Carolina Breast Friends'] Facebook group of Survivors," she says.
As her treatment has come to an end, Brittany has engaged more deeply as a Survivor. Just recently, she expressed her interest in becoming a Mentor to help others like her through their journey.
Says Brittany, "I'm Inspired by the support I received during my own journey and hope to become even more involved in helping others navigate their own battles with cancer."
She goes on, "I was looking for ways to give back to the community, as I felt fortunate for all the support I had during treatment, so I signed up to volunteer for something. From there, I was not only connected to more volunteer opportunities at the Pink House but also with 24 Foundation which raises money for the cancer community." (CBF is a recipient of a grant from 24 Foundation.)
