Carolina Breast Friends is proud to share a meaningful research opportunity from North Carolina State University focused on improving life after breast surgery. As an organization dedicated to supporting Survivors and Thrivers, we believe it is essential to stay connected to advancements in technology, design, and research that can enhance comfort, confidence, and overall quality of life.
This study is led by Dr. Yuanqing Tian, Assistant Professor of Industrial Design, alongside Ph.D. candidate Mixuan Li. Their work centers on human-centered design, exploring how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, ergonomics, and digital fabrication can be used to create more personalized solutions in healthcare.
The current research project aims to develop more comfortable and supportive breast forms tailored to each individual’s unique body shape following surgery. By focusing on personalization, the team hopes to better meet the real-life needs of those navigating recovery after breast cancer.
The researchers are currently seeking individuals who have undergone a lumpectomy or unilateral mastectomy, are fully recovered from surgery, and have not had breast reconstruction. Participation involves a visit to NC State University for a 30-minute interview and a brief 10-minute 3D scanning session. As a thank you, participants will receive a $30 Amazon gift card.
If travel presents a challenge, support may be available—please reach out directly to Ashly at adollar@carolinabreastfriends.org.
