Beginning 2026 with Strength, Connection & Heart
A new year brings a sense of renewal, a quiet invitation to reflect on where we’ve been and gently step forward into what’s next. At Carolina Breast Friends, that forward movement is never taken alone. It’s shaped by shared stories, steady support, laughter in the midst of hard seasons, and the unwavering belief that hope is stronger together. In this first edition of 2026, we celebrate resilience, connection, and the many ways our community continues to show up — for one another and for the mission that binds us. From personal reflections to powerful survivor stories, from moments of restoration to partnerships that expand our reach, this issue is a reminder that healing is not a destination — it’s a journey best walked side by side. We’re grateful to begin another year with you.

A Journey of Strength, Service & Sisterhood
his month, we shine the spotlight on Anita Moye, a two-time breast cancer survivor whose story is rooted in determination, faith, and community.
First diagnosed in 2009 and again in 2020 after navigating a deeply personal season of life, Anita has faced her journey with courage and intention. Through lumpectomies, chemotherapy, radiation, and the shock that accompanies diagnosis, she made a powerful decision: she would not let cancer define or defeat her.
What began as seeking support eventually became something even more meaningful. After being introduced to The Pink House through her church ministry, Anita found not only programs and resources, but sisterhood. From nutrition classes to garden gatherings, from wigs and support services to packing Comfort Care Bags with her church community, Anita has embraced every stage of survivorship with openness and generosity.
Today, she gives back in the same way she was once supported — reminding other Survivors and Thrivers that no one should walk this journey alone.
Anita’s message is simple and powerful: there is strength in community. There is healing in connection. And there is hope at every stage of the journey.

Celebrating 10 Years with Pam Young

Ten years ago, Pam Young came to Carolina Breast Friends as a marketing consultant. What she didn’t know then was that she was stepping into a role, and a community, that would become deeply personal. From building CBF’s first marketing plan to managing the blog, YouTube channel, and weekly emails today, Pam has helped tell the story of The Pink House every step of the way.
In this special reflection, Pam shares what first brought her to CBF, the moments that have stayed with her most, and why this mission continues to feel like family a decade later.

The past few months at The Pink House have been filled with moments of connection, reflection, and joy. From honoring powerful journeys to creating space for healing and gratitude, each gathering reminded us of the strength, resilience, and community that make Carolina Breast Friends so special.
Detox & Defend — Celebrating Wellness with Intention
We kicked off the new year by celebrating milestones the wellness way, with beautiful, intentionally crafted mocktails designed to calm, hydrate, and nourish. Thanks to Dr. Scott Gremillion, Nichole Adamson, and Chic With The Drinks, this joyful gathering reminded us that healing can be both meaningful and delicious.

Qi Gong — Healing into Wellness
Our six-week Qi Gong journey with Julia Schmidt offers Survivors and Thrivers a gentle path back to balance through mindful movement, breathwork, and meditation. This nurturing series invites participants to reconnect with their body’s natural healing intelligence in a space grounded in strength, ease, and empowerment.

Mentor Summit — Strengthening the Heart of Connection
At our 3rd Annual Mentor Summit, new and veteran mentors gathered for connection, training, and renewal. Guided by Master Certified Coach Laurie Schible, the day focused on building trust, deepening empathy, and strengthening the compassionate presence that makes mentorship at The Pink House so powerful.

Grounding Yourself — The Magic Box
Peer mentoring is a core service that Carolina Breast Friends provides to breast cancer Survivors and Thrivers. Because of the significant nature of that role, we offer our mentors ongoing training and support to help them show up grounded, present, and at their very best.
For this Wellness Tip, we’re sharing a brief mentor support video featuring a calming grounding exercise called The Magic Box. This simple visualization technique helps “set aside” racing thoughts, to-do lists, and worries — creating space to be fully present in the moment.
While designed to support mentors, this exercise can benefit anyone navigating a busy or overwhelming season.
Take a few minutes to pause, breathe, and reset.

Meg Fencil’s Journey of Grit, Grace, and Forward Motion
Part of our Stories of Strength collaboration with Queens University students

Meg Fencil never expected her life to intersect so deeply with the medical world. Active, science-minded, and rarely sick, her breast cancer diagnosis in October 2023 arrived without warning — and changed everything. What followed was an intense journey marked by aggressive treatment, profound personal loss, and an unwavering determination to keep moving forward.
In this powerful story, Meg shares how she navigated a triple-positive breast cancer diagnosis while continuing to work, stay active, and lean into the strength of her community. From running half marathons during treatment to celebrating the end of chemotherapy surrounded by loved ones, her journey is a testament to resilience, self-advocacy, and the healing power of connection.

Partnerships That Strengthen Our Mission
Community is at the heart of everything we do at Carolina Breast Friends, and that community extends far beyond The Pink House walls.
We are deeply grateful for the businesses and partners who stand beside Survivors and Thrivers through sponsorships, volunteerism, and creative collaborations. Their support allows us to expand programs and ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.
We’re especially excited to welcome Palestra Spa Studios as a new 2026 partner. Palestra will host a complimentary mini-retreat for our Survivors and Thrivers this spring and launch a year-long third-party donation campaign to support our mission. We are so thankful for their heart for wellness and community care.
We invite you to learn more about this inspiring collaboration and what it means for our community.
