What a Difference a Year Makes
What a difference a year makes.
When the pandemic brought much of life to a standstill, we knew we could not shut down or even slow down the help we provide to women and men living with breast cancer. If anything, they needed even more support. So, we acted swiftly.
Within weeks, anyone with breast cancer could attend all of our sessions virtually. New Survivors were being matched with mentors remotely and supported by phone, email, and text. We also launched a YouTube channel so people could benefit from our sessions on their own timetable from their own homes.
Then some amazing things happened...
In fact, over the course of the year, the number of Survivors we are serving has tripled! In January and February of 2020, we served 246 Survivors. Fast forward to a year later, and in January and February of 2021, we served 745 Survivors! In addition, for much of the past year, we have been the only resource in the greater Charlotte area where a woman could receive a free wig, breast prosthesis, or mastectomy bra.
- Holding our sessions virtually has allowed for far more participants than we could ever squeeze into the Pink House itself, as well as "opening the doors" to people from outside the Charlotte area.
- Our educational offerings are booming because we can feature more top breast cancer experts who lead sessions remotely from wherever they are.
- Our YouTube channel now has close to 60 videos, and more than 3000 people from near and far have viewed them. Visit our YouTube Channel
So here we stand a little more than a year later, delivering our mission very differently, and also helping more people than ever. Now as we reach the end of our fiscal year on June 30, we need your help.
During this same time that we've served more people living with breast cancer, we've also had to forgo one major fundraising event and postpone another because of the pandemic. Please help us wrap up the year on the footing that breast cancer Survivors deserve.
Rebuild your commitment. Renew our Survivors.
