Lots of Activities to Benefit Us in Pinktober!
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aka Pinktober, and we are grateful to be celebrating with the help of many community supporters and partners who are sharing our information, honoring breast cancer Survivors and raising money to support our mission and work! With so many special events and opportunities happening all over town this month to benefit Carolina Breast Friends, you can easily make plans to shop, use fitness or beauty services, and socialize in a way that also helps the breast cancer survivors we serve.
Already, some stellar events have taken place to benefit us! We kicked off the month with a special donation of hundreds of "knitted knockers" prostheses from the Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl, delivered to the Pink House by the Pink Lady Firetruck. Special thanks also goes to Central Piedmont Community College for their October 1, 50 Shades of Pink event where they donated all the proceeds from special pink manicures and paraffin hand dips.
On October 4, Lake Norman High School raised more than $1800 for us at their Pink Volley Ball Game, where they pulled out all the stops by wearing pink jerseys and having both a silent auction and a bake sale! Also on October 4, Morrison Smith Jewelers held a special silent auction of key merchandise and donated 100% of the proceeds from the bid cards in memory of Tina Cheek, who passed away in September from breast cancer.
Also of note was the October 6 Chocolate for a Cure brunch to "bring breast cancer awareness to women of color within underserved and underprivileged communities." It featured jazz, community leaders and, of course, chocolate! And on October 10 The DeAngelo Williams Foundation invited breast cancer Survivors and their caretakers to an advance screening of the movie Goosebumps 2.
Still more in Store!
Here are some highlights of upcoming activities that will benefit Carolina Breast Friends:
All month long, four separate initiatives are intent on pinking up Charlotte. Denise Antonnacci Salon in Southpark--who helps us with our Be You Be Beautiful self-image program--is offering pink hair extensions and donating all of the proceeds to benefit our mission. Meanwhile, KM Salon in Southend will be selling pink ribbons for $1 to display in their store windows, and Carolina Pharmacy will be selling pink ribbons at all of their locations. Lastly, the Health Occupations Students of America group at Marvin Ridge High School has designed wristbands to sell at football games and during lunch. All of the proceeds from the sale of these extensions, ribbons and wristbands will come to us to support our mission.
What other things can you do at any time this month and simultaneously support the work we do at the Pink House? The Cowfish restaurant at Southpark and eeZ Fusion and Sushi at Birkdale Village is featuring a Save-the-Tatas-Tini, and $2 from each sold will come to us. Meanwhile, the retailer Brighton is running its annual Power of Pink event and donating $10 from the sale of each Limited Edition Pink Bracelet to support our mission.
If you're ready for a hearty breakfast, David Weekly Homes Charlotte is having its Annual Short Stack for a Tall Cause pancake breakfast at its Ballantyne location on October 20 from 8:00-11:00 a.m. On the following day, October 21, Samantha Grace Photography will be at the Pink House to do celebratory mini photo sessions with breast cancer Survivors and their families (Note: If you're interested in a photo session please call the Pink House at 704-370-7773 for details).
Are you looking for something fun to do? On October 17, Boatyard Eats in Cornelius is donating part of the proceeds from a special Live Comedy Night featuring 4 different comics.
If art is more your thing, you can try your hand at painting at the Art & Appetizers event being held the evening of October 27 by Miles of Design, Queen City Robotics, Bots of War Community Robotics and Yeti Robotics. Click here for info.
