Counting our Blessings this Thanksgiving

November 2017

It's the season of thanks, and at Carolina Breast Friends we have so many things for which we're thankful.

We are thankful for every person who walks through our door newly diagnosed and looking for a soft place to land. We are thankful for all the longtime Survivors who continue to use our programs to connect, and who are always willing to mentor others who are facing what they have already faced.

We are also filled with gratitude for the outpouring of support we received last month during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (See story). Businesses including Advanced Residuals, Brighton Collectibles, Capizzi, MD Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Care, David Weekly Homes, Kendra Scott, Seoul Meat Company, Serenity Now, Total Being Yoga, Whalen Dentistry, and others raised money to support our mission. Organizations such as Queen City Jack and Jill, Fashion & Compassion, and Lady Q Events raised awareness and funds with events including a 5K, store displays and the Glam the Runway fashion show. Other groups collected goods to donate or volunteered at the Pink House. We topped it all off with our own event for breast cancer Survivors, their caregivers and our supporters at our Caregivers & Supporters Thank You Party on October 28, which drew more than 50 people for outdoor fun, music and food. For all of this, we couldn't be more thankful.

And the blessings continue past October. Ladies of Lineage Bridal Boutique has been raising awareness and money all through November to support our work and mission. Kendra Scott at Southpark Mall is holding a give-back event November 30 from 5:30 - 8:30 to benefit us with 10% of each purchase. We're grateful for these special partners and all the other local businesses and organizations that support us throughout the year.

We are thankful for the many supporters who gift us with their time and talent. Volunteers sustain many of our programs by donating their skills to deliver yoga, jewelry making, healing touch and many other of the activities we offer each month. They are the lifeblood of so much of our programming.

We are also thankful for the volunteers that make our signature events successful. As just one example, even though the event is not until April 6, 2018, this year's slate of Stars for Dancing with the Stars of Charlotte to Benefit the Pink House is already dedicating hours to working with our dance pros and reaching out to their connections to meet their fundraising goals. In fact, they've already raised more than $100,000 collectively! Tickets for the show go on sale December 1. Click here to learn more and see who this year's Stars are.

In short, Carolina Breast Friends is fueled by the dedication, generosity, hard work and good deeds of hundreds of people. Without this bounty of amazing people and positive support, we could not exist. That brings us to the thing for which we are most thankful this and every year.

We are thankful, most of all, to be realizing the dream of our founder, Kristy Adams-Ebel, who knew that breast cancer Survivors need a place of serenity, support and joy, where they can come together to nourish and celebrate each other along the journey.
