
Annie Gunning has been a Certified Child Life Specialist for over 22 years, she will share a short presentation with us then will be open for a Q & A Session.
"Empowering children and families to cope with life's stressful experiences utilizing therapeutic play, education, preparation and creative expression"
The focus will be on coping at diagnosis and throughout treatment and providing suggestions for connection activities for hospitalizations, doctor visits, etc.
Suggestions will be age appropriate and divided into preschool, school-age, and teen. Annie will discuss how to help kids cope and offer examples of coping activities that can be done at home.
NOTE: This session will be delivered online using Zoom. You can participate using your computer, smartphone, or tablet. There is no cost involved or software to load. All you need is the meeting link and password, which we will provide via email confirmation when you register (using the button at the top of this session description). Annie has been a Certified Child Life Specialist for over 22 years. She is originally from St. Louis, Mo where she completed her Child Life training at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. While in St. Louis she worked at Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital and later returned to Cardinal Glennon. Annie earned her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Missouri. Over the course of her career Annie has worked in a Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Setting, Pediatric Emergency Department, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care, Hematology/Oncology, General Pediatric Surgery Unit, General Pediatrics and Radiology. Annie has also been a Certified Infant Massage Instructor since 2002 including additional training in special needs infant massage in 2003.
Annie continues to participate in local and national conferences to remain abreast on the field of Child Life. While continuing to support the community in private practice Annie is also a facilitator at Kindermourn with their Helping The Hurt school outreach program.
After living in Charlotte for 14 years Annie has loved calling Charlotte home and being close to the mountains and beaches while spending time with her two kids, husband and golden retriever.
