Session Description

Breast Cancer Index is a gene expression-based test that examines an individual's unique tumor biology to help physicians make a more informed decision regarding extension of endocrine therapy. BCI is generally ordered between year 3 and 4 (after diagnosis) and is comprised of two components: a predictive function, reported as a binary "Yes" or "No" evaluates the likelihood of benefit to extending, and a prognostic function, reported as the risk of late distant recurrence between years 5 and 10 (after diagnosis).

We will discuss how the test came to be, inclusions in the national oncology guidelines, and the clinical utility of the test results for the patient and her doctor, as well as touching on the patient services financial support group
