Session Description:

After treatment of Breast Cancer many Survivors want to understand what their follow up care and screening will look like. Dr. Dufour will discuss many of the following questions with us over this virtual session:
- What imaging follow up should I expect after my breast conservation surgery (lumpectomy)? - Is there imaging follow up if I have had a bilateral mastectomy?  What about a unilateral mastectomy?
- How do you evaluate a reconstructed breast with imaging?  How do implants affect breast imaging and my follow up?
- Do other aspects of my treatment (chemotherapy, radiation) affect my imaging follow up?
- What does the radiologist look for on my follow up imaging?  What are the signs concerning for recurrence?
- Should I now have Breast MRIs in additional to mammograms?   What are the advantages and disadvantages of Breast MRIs?
- What other types of imaging could I expect if my breast cancer has spread (metastasized)?

Dr. Dufour is originally from Virginia and attended medical school at George Washington University.  He then went on to complete a surgical internship and radiology residency at The University of Virginia.  He chose to pursue a Fellowship in Breast Imaging because of the meaningful relationship that is formed between the radiologist and their patients as well as the critical responsibility that the radiologist has in the early and accurate detection of breast cancer.  He completed his Fellowship at Wake Forest University and then moved to Charlotte, NC in 2020 to join Mecklenburg Radiology Associates.  MRA is the oldest radiology group in North Carolina and is a highly subspecialized practice that provides services to the greater Charlotte region. Dr. Dufour primarily practices as a Breast Imager where he interprets mammograms, ultrasounds, MRIs and performs breast biopsies.  In his spare time he likes to garden, try new restaurants, root for UVA sports, and go on neighborhood walks with his wife and 1 year old mini-bernadoodle, Burton.
