Lymphedema Risk Reduction

 

Session Description:

We will review what lymphedema is and its associated risk factors. We will go through myths and also explain the next steps if you think you are at risk or have symptoms of lymphedema.
Light dinner will be served. 

NOTE: This session will be delivered in person at The Pink House. Parking is available behind The Pink House.


Speaker Bio:

Bethany is a licensed physical therapist and certified lymphedema therapist practicing at Novant Health in Charlotte, NC. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with her Bachelor of Science - Health Sciences in 2014 and graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2018. She enjoys working together with her patients to create customized treatment plans for their specific needs. Her background includes orthopedics, lymphedema, and cancer rehabilitation. When not in the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband and golden retrievers. 


Virginia Serruto is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Certified Lymphedema Therapist at Novant Health Weisiger Cancer Institute. She received her Bachelor's degree from Loyola University Maryland where she competed as a NCAA Division 1 swimmer and earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her lymphedema training from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies and has completed advanced training in pelvic health rehabilitation from the American Physical Therapy Association and Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. Virginia specializes in oncology rehabilitation and is passionate about cancer survivorship. Before moving to North Carolina, Virginia worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute in New York City and she taught, "Cancer Rehab 101" as a recurring guest lecturer to first-year Doctoral students at Columbia University. Virginia lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband, daughter, and 6-year-old Doberman pincher. When she's not helping patients, she enjoys hiking with her family, testing out new recipes in the kitchen, and getting outside for a run or a friendly game of tennis.
