VIRTUAL Session begins at 5:30 PM
Please register above in order to receive the link to join the program.
Session Description: Please join us for an information session on the benefits of pelvic floor therapy. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, then pelvic floor therapy may be for you: pain during urination or when the bladder is full; urine leakage when coughing, sneezing or laughing; a strong urge to urinate without being able to empty your bladder; painful bowel movements and/or constipation; pain during or after sex or vaginal exams; the feeling that the pelvic organs are dropping (prolapse); lower abdominal pain; and chronic pain linked to endometriosis, irritable bowel syndrome or fibromyalgia.
Pelvic floor disorders affect one in three women. The good news is that pelvic floor dysfunction can be treated successfully by a trained physical therapist.
Amber Chewning, DPT, PT, CLT was born in Wilmington, NC, and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her degree in Movement Science. She continued at Duke University to obtain her doctorate in Physical Therapy with a focus in Women's Health. She has served as a lead physical therapist at MD Anderson Cancer Center and participated in several research initiatives to standardize Best Practice for breast cancer survivors. She has advanced training in lymphedema, pelvic health, dry needling, and myofascial release. Pelvic Floor Therapy includes the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor muscles which are affected by a variety of diagnoses including the bowel, bladder, sexual dysfunction and pelvic pain. She now works at Novant Health Rehabilitation within the Weisiger Cancer Institute serving cancer survivors in the Charlotte area.
