Pamela Magee
My
name is Pamela Magee and I’m 48 years old. In May of 2004, a lump was discovered
in my left breast during a routine mammogram. All my life I’ve been extremely
health conscious and figured I would be the last person to be diagnosed with
breast cancer. I’ve always been committed to exercising at least 4 times a week
and eating all of the right foods. In May, I also made a decision to embark on a
new career in real estate. The day before I was to take my class exam, I
received the news that my
tumor was malignant. I did pass my exam and I had a
lumpectomy two weeks later; where they found microscopic traces of cancer cells
in 2 lymph nodes. A week before finding out I had to have further treatment, I
started working for a custom home builder. After struggling for a month on what
to do next and how to deal with all of the information I received from doctors
and my research on the internet, I contacted Kristy at Carolina Breast Friends.
I completed all of my treatments in February, 2005 and I’m currently studying
for my NC Real Estate Exam. I never missed a day of work through all my
chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Carolina Breast Friends were there for me
every step of the way. I have met so many strong, courageous women through
Carolina Breast Friends and look forward to our meetings every month. We’re all
on the same journey and we are an inspiration to each other. We can laugh and
cry together. I’m currently on the CBF Board, responsible for communications, so
you’ll be hearing a lot about us! Until we find a cure, I look forward to
helping other women find the strength and courage to fight this awful disease.
